His 16 was a record until broken by Stu Wilson in 1983. He scored 115 in a 289-game first-class career. Kirkpatrick was first chosen for the All Blacks in 1967, making his debut against France, and in his first test against Australia in 1968, he scored three tries. He played in a record 38 consecutive tests, captaining New Zealand against Australia in 1972, on the tour of Britain and France in 1972-73 and against England in 1973. Kirkpatrick was replaced as captain by Andy Leslie in 1974 but continued to play for New Zealand until 1977. Return to the Inductee list
