Holliday’s moment of triumph came in the points race at Maebashi in Japan in 1990, when she caught napping the vastly more experienced European riders. Holliday also had to overcome a crash. She rode aggressively from the start, accumulating points in all the early sprints but seven laps from the end she and American Karen Bliss-Carpenter tangled and both fell heavily. New Zealand coach Ron Cheatley had her quickly back on her bike and she was back in the race within the required three laps and finished strongly for a total of 33 points, a comfortable seven clear of second-placed Svetlana Samokhvalova of Russia. A few days after winning the title, Holliday was fourth in the world championship road race. Return to the Inductee list
