Under Alert Level 1, the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame is now OPEN. Our hours are 10am to 3pm (Wednesdays to Sundays). We are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays (open by appointment only on these days).

Rita Fatialofa played netball and softball for New Zealand.

She was a member of the team that won the 1982 world softball title in Taiwan and was named as a designated hitter in the All-Star tournament team.

She played club netball for PIC in Wellington and Collegiate in Auckland and won national titles with both.

She was a wing attack or goal attack for New Zealand between 1982 and 1989, during which the Silver Ferns were second in the world championships in 1983 and winners in 1987.

She was subsequently player-coach of the Samoan national team that competed at the 1991 and 1995 world netball tournaments.

It’s not too often that modern sports people admit to answering the call of Queen and country first, but that’s what Onny Parun did in 1975 when he chose to play for New Zealand in a Davis Cup tie instead of playing in a tournament in Holland.
