It was one of the most devastating introductions to test rugby the world has seen. His speed, powerful fend, flair and an astonishing sidestep made him the favourite of crowds wherever he went. Williams went on to play 113 times for the All Blacks, including 38 tests, and scored 401 points, including 65 tries. His final All Black tour was with the 1978 Grand Slam team in Britain and Ireland. Williams continued to grace the game as a coach, first with the highly successful Auckland team, then with Samoa and he was assistant coach of the Hurricanes in the Super 12 for two years. He was made a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2017. Return to the Inductee list
