A genuinely fast bowler, Motz first played for New Zealand in 1960 and spearheaded the test attack in South Africa in 1961-62 when New Zealand drew the series two tests each. He was named one of the five players of the year by Wisden for his efforts on the 1965 tour of England and though troubled by a recurring back injury on the following tour, in 1969, he was still able to make the breakthrough for his 100th wicket. Motz played 32 tests for his 100 wickets at 31.48. He was also an attacking batsman with a highest test score of 60. In other first-class cricket, he scored 103 for Canterbury against Otago in 1968 in 53 minutes. Return to the Inductee list
